William J. Schmidt

Obituary William J. Schmidt 5/9/1920 - 10/12/2005 Bill was born in Dickinson, North Dakota, the 7th of 8 children born to Anna & Domenic Schmidt. He served his country during WWII in the 164th Infantry Regiment, Company K in the South Pacific. Upon his discharge in 1945, he moved to Tacoma where he resided for more than 60 years. Bill retired in 1982 after 47 years as a Cobbler and Leather Craftsman. Bill leaves behind his wife Yolanda "Lonnie" of 58 years, son and daughter-in-law, Frank & RosaLee Schmidt, daughter and son-in-law Nancy & Dave Hofner. He will be fondly remembered as "Pop" & "Poppy" to his four grandchildren: Kim Kawachi, Frank Schmidt II, Adam & Hailey Hofner and six great-grandchildren: Bridgett, Tatiana, Brandon & Jordan Kawachi and Frankie & Kallie Schmidt. He is also survived by his brother John, sister Ann, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Pete and Nick, sisters Betty, Kate and Madge. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 15, 2005, 10:00 a.m. at the Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel. Place of rest will be Tacoma Mausoleum.
