Obituary William Leonardo Rohner, M.D. William Leonardo Rohner, M.D., FACR, died at the age of 84 on Saturday, September 13, in Lakewood, Washington. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Dr. Frank and Filomena Rohner, and spent his youth in Iowa City and at Indian Lookout. He is survived by his wife, Mary Robinson Rohner, and their children Patty Collins (Hobie) of Louisville, Kentucky, Suzanne Brooks (Stephen) of Anacortes, Washington and Doug Rohner of Tacoma. He is also survived by his siblings: Jim, John, Filomena, Mary and Teresa. His brother Ed died while serving during the Second World War. As a bombardier based in Molesworth England in the 303rd Bomb Group, known as Hell's Angels, Lt. Rohner flew on 36 missions and was forever grateful to have returned home to enjoy a long, happy and successful life. For his service he was awarded the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, a Purple Heart and the Air Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters. On his return from World War II, Bill became an X-Ray Technician and received his baccalaureate from the University of Iowa. He then completed his medical education at the University of Iowa College of Medicine and served an internship at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma. Following a residency in radiology at the University of Iowa, he returned to Tacoma to practice and was a founder of Tacoma Radiological Associates. He was Chief of Radiology at St. Joseph for many years and very proud to become a Fellow of the American College of Radiology in 1985. Bill was an avid golfer and long time member of Tacoma Country & Golf Club. He was a devoted family man with a wonderful sense of humor and capacity for fun. Bill was extraordinarily generous in spirit and in his support of worthy causes and people. With a gift for friendship, he also enjoyed the companionship of a large group of interesting friends dating back to his youth in Iowa City. He had a special and enduring affection for the nuns who educated him and those who served at St. Joseph Hospital. His was a life well-lived, and he will be remembered vividly and endearingly by everyone who had the good fortune to know him. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club on Sunday September 28 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org or Foundation Fighting Blindness www.blindness.org.
