Obituary Warren A Styner Jr. was born in Aberdeen, WA on October 21, 1921 to Warren and Hannah Styner and passed away on August 14, 2008 in Olympia at the age of 86. He graduated in 1941 from Aberdeen High School and then went to work for Boeing building B17 bombers to help with the war effort. When he left Boeing he attended college at Washington State University. On July 24, 1948 he married Norma Atwood of Yakima where they settled and went on to raise a family of five. Warren helped to open the first New York Stock Exchange brokerage firm in Yakima, Walston & Co. Though the name on the office door changed numerous times over the years he remained manager until shortly before his retirement in 1991 at the age of 70. During these years, Warren was an active member of his community. He volunteered for years with The United Way (formerly United Good Neighbors) serving on many committees before becoming the drive chairman and then president. He received the governor's recognition award for this work from Governor Dan Evans. He also served as president of the Yakima Golf and Country Club, Yakima Valley Ski Club and was an active member of the Yakima Tennis Club. With one of his children involved in showing horses, he gained an interest and eventually became president and organizer of the Washington State Open Horse Show in 1980. With the show set to open in a few days Warren and his wife were at the fairgrounds preparing early on the morning of May 18th when they saw the approaching dark sky from the eruption of Mt. St. Helens. Needless to say, the horse show never took place. Warren and Norma retired in 1991 to Seaview, Longbeach, WA, where they volunteered time and also made many friends. Warren was active in coordinating tennis programs for youth groups through the USTA and enjoyed his involvement with the tennis community. In 2002, they moved to Dupont to be closer to their daughters. Warren is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma, son Dean (Tacoma); son Ward and his wife Gail and daughter Sarah (Yakima); daughter Peggy Riecan and her husband George (Tacoma) and their children Dustin (Fiancé Rachel), Courtney Corpeno (Josh), and Cameron; daughter Mary Jo DeHart and her son Brian (Dupont); and daughter Carol Styner and her husband Mark Wilhyde (Ocean Shores). A celebration of Warren's life will be held at Patriots Landing Dupont WA 98327 from 1-3 PM on September 6th, 2008 for whoever wants to come. If desired make donations to your favorite charity.
