Virginia June Moceri

June 17, 1929 — January 26, 2013

Obituary Virginia Moceri Virginia Moceri passed away on January 26, 2013 after courageously battling pancreatic cancer. She was born June 17, 1929, in Tacoma, to Alex and Jean Martelli. Virginia graduated from St Leo's High School and then St. Joseph's Nursing School in 1950. She worked many years as an operating nurse at St Joseph's Hospital. She continued her nursing career as the company nurse for the Pacific Bell Telephone Company and later with the Tacoma Ambulatory Surgery Center, from where she retired. Virginia's joys included playing the piano, baking, crocheting, knitting, volunteering, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She was devoted to her Italian heritage, organizing her family's annual Italian picnics and Italian Christmas brunches. She spent many hours volunteering with the Sons of Italy and at their annual spaghetti dinners. She enjoyed cooking her "famous" authentic Italian spaghetti sauce. She also spearheaded her nursing and high school reunions and volunteered for the SERRA club. Her home was always a warm and loving place, open to all. She will be greatly missed by many. She was married her last 25 years to James P. Moceri and together they enjoyed traveling to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and much of the United States, especially enjoying their condo in Hawaii and numerous cruises. She is survived by her husband, James, her brother, Don Martelli and his wife Meryle, her six daughters from her first marriage Paula (Byron) Burris, Cindy Johnson, Judy (Dannie) Rudolph, Carol (Kevin) Purcell, Jeanne (Bob) Moser and Tina (Kevin) Kelly, 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, her step children from her second marriage, Alan and Susan, and James' 5 children, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Donald Vincent and her second husband Lyle Parsons. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Franciscan Hospice House and the Sons of Italy Scholarship Foundation. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 7:00 pm at St. Charles Borromeo, 7112 S. 12th St., Tacoma. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Charles Borromeo. Entombment at Calvary Cloisters. Please leave online condolences at www.gaffneycares.com.
