Tim was predeceased by his parents, Florence and Roy, and his brother, Terry, who no doubt are happy to have him with them in the Great Beyond. Left behind until their turns are his wife, Barbara, his son, Jens, his daughter, Katey, and five beautiful granddaughters. He was especially proud of these girls and loved them to distraction. Having given his parents no end of grief as a youth and raised a son himself, he often expressed his relief that there was not a boy in the bunch.
The gatehouse to the Thornewood Mansion was his family home where he grew up, roaming the grounds,. American Lake and North Fort Lewis, doing things he should not have but luckily survived. He was a Clover Park student athlete, competed in football and track, and graduated in 1961. Education was very important to him (as an adult), and he graduated from PLU in Social Welfare and earned his Master's Degree in Public Administration from UPS. He had a varied work life as a mental health counselor, social worker, psychiatric hospital administrator and businessman.
Tim was a good man - warm, funny, and honest, with a stubborn tenacity when challenged that bordered on obstinate. His family meant the most to him, and he was a homebody. But he sure loved visits from friends. He supported causes he believed in and was a proud card-carrying member of the ACLU.
He was never happier than when he was on the waters of Puget Sound, although viewing the Sound from his home on Day Island was a close second. Waves from a stiff breeze were lit by the sun for his last look at his favorite scene, exactly as he'd hoped. He was shrouded in our flag by his son and a former US Marine to acknowledge his service in the National Guard. A respectful salute was his last good-bye.
He is profoundly missed.
Tim would give a million thanks Multicare Hospice, and Barbara is also grateful for their care and support. Much appreciation as well goes to the members of West Pierce Fire and Rescue, who several times came to assist Tim at the drop of a hat.
For all who want to gather there will be a party in Tim's memory at the Day Island Clubhouse, 1965 East Day Island Blvd., University Place, WA 98466 on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 2 p.m. Roadside parking is available, but it may be necessary to walk a block or so to the clubhouse.
