Obituary Thomas Henry Skrinar, M.D. 9/23/23 ?" 7/14/07 Thomas was born Sept. 23, 1923 in Joliet, Illinois, the youngest of four children, to Ellen Little Skrinar and Joseph Francis Skrinar. He died July 14, 2007 at St. Joseph Hospital at the age of 83. He graduated from St. Raymond's Elementary School in Joliet and from Loras Academy in Dubuque, Iowa. During World War II he served with the 3rd Marine Division in the South Pacific for two years. He married Kathleen Gallagher, his wife of 55 years, in 1952 in David City, NE and they had four children. He graduated with a B.S. from Creighton University in Omaha, NE and with an M.D. in 1952 from Creighton University Medical School. He interned at St. Joseph's Hospital, Tacoma, WA in 1952-53 and then entered into the practice of general medicine in Tacoma with the Northern Pacific Beneficial Association and later into private practice at the Puget Sound Clinic. He retired on Dec. 31, 1993, after 40 years, having delivered over 1000 babies and his practice having comprised over three generations of patients. He was a member of The Pierce County Medical Association and of The Washington State Medical Association. He was a member for over 40 years of the Fircrest Golf Club and of the Elks. He served as chairman of the Northern Pacific Beneficial Association and as president of the Pierce County Lung Association and as state chairman of the Washington State Lung Association. He was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Lt. Joseph F. Skrinar Jr. who died in World War II and by a sister-in-law, Patricia Bahula (Jerry) Omaha, NE and by two brothers-in-law, Raymond Gallagher, Tacoma, and William M. Dickson, McMinneville, OR. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, and his four children, Thomas Joseph Skrinar (Patricia Padilla), Tacoma, Valerie Ann Hogan (Brian), Seattle, Suzanne Mary Milton (Fred), Mesa, AZ and Maria Claire Skrinar, Tacoma. He is survived by eleven grandchildren, Andrew, Emilia and Rachel Mara Skrinar, Giles and Patrick Hogan, and Steven, Louise, Veronica, Rosalie, James and Peter Milton, and by one great grandchild Ruby Skrinar. He is also survived by two sisters, Helen Dickson, McMinneville, OR and Margaret Moir, Tacoma and by two brothers-in-law, Brendan J. Gallagher (Diane), Tacoma, and Jerry Bahula, Omaha NE and two nephews, William M. Dickson (Becky) McMinneville, OR and John Gallagher, Tacoma and several other nephews and nieces. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 18th at Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel, 1002 S. Yakima Ave. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, July 19, 2007 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 7112 South 12th St. followed by reception at St. Charles and then interment at Calvary Cemetery. The family extends a special thank you to Doctors Senecal, Gallucci, Fry and Hubbell and to all of those other caregivers who gave Thomas such compassionate care.
