Obituary Theodore Charles Hellman, born July 20, 1932, fought the good fight, kept the faith and finished his race on February 16, 2011. Ted was proud to serve in the United States Navy as a young man and loved the outdoors as an avid hunter and fisherman his entire life. He was a gifted artist, athlete, educator and counselor who retired from Lakes High School. The father of six children, "Poppy" to ten grandchildren, "Uncle Ted" to twelve nieces and nephews, and "Friend" to countless others, he is the youngest son of the late Reverend Walter and Agnes Hellman and is survived by sisters, Daphne Sandvig (husband, Edward) and Donna Soine (husband, Malcom); and children, Holly Welty (husband, Steve), Todd Hellman (wife, Martha), Mike Hellman (wife, Rachel), Matt Hellman and Greta Pollett (husband, Chris). He will be laid next to Colleen Hellman, his precious wife of 42 years. Ted loved the Lord, loved his family and lived for others. His wit and wisdom remain: "To have a life, you need to get a life", and indeed he did both here and forever...to God be the glory! Visitation will be on Sunday, February 27 from Noon to 6 pm at Gaffney Funeral Home, 1002 South Yakima Ave. in Tacoma. A memorial service and reception to follow will be held on Monday, February 28 at 1:00 pm at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 1315 North Stevens St. in Tacoma.
