Ted Tamaki recently passed away peacefully following a short illness. He was 98 years old.
Born in Tacoma, WA, Ted was the youngest of six children born to Seiichi and Tora Tamaki. After years spent in internment camps during WW2 he joined the Army serving in the Military Intelligence Service as an interpreter.
Following his graduation from the University of Puget Sound, Ted met and married Martha in Tacoma, WA. They moved to Portland, OR where he worked for a pharmaceutical company and helped to raise their two sons. Later they moved to Sunnyvale, CA where Ted worked for Oral B Laboratories as Director of Quality Control until his retirement.
During his years in the Pacific NW Ted was actively involved with both the Oregon and Tacoma Buddhist Temples, where he served as an assistant minister at the latter. Ted also spent his free time playing golf with many friends and shared his love of the game with his sons so they could play together.
Ted is survived by his wife Martha of 68 years, sons Steve (Michelle), Craig (Traci) and grandchildren Tyler (Megan), Tana, Alayna and Tali.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Tacoma Buddhist Temple (tacomabt.org).
