Stanley Kenneth Topolski, 79, peacefully passed to the other side on July 6, 2024, in Tacoma, WA. Born on May 2, 1945, Stanley was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend with a deep love for his community, fishing, gardening, well-intended mischief, and Prospect Street.
Stan served as a Special Forces Vietnam Veteran, anthropology professor, workforce development coach, and father figure. Beloved by all the dogs on Prospect Street, he was also a cherished neighbor. For over 30 years, he was a dedicated member of the Tacoma recovery community, where his unique ability to share his experience, strength, and hope impacted hundreds of lives. His loss will be deeply felt by many, young and old, and his commitment to service above self will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him.
Stanley is survived by his loving cat, Ziggy Stardust; his brother, Jeffrey Topolski; his sister, Lydia Jonas; and nephews, nieces, and close friends he considered family. He was predeceased by his mother, Gertrude Shilling; father, John Topolski Sr.; and older brother, John Topolski, Jr.
The community is invited to Stanley's Celebration of Life on Tuesday, July 23rd. His burial with military honors will be at Calvary Cemetery (5212 S 70th St, Tacoma, WA 98467) at 3:00 pm, followed by a memorial dinner at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church (3410 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA 98406) at 5:00 pm.
