Obituary Stan Farber Tacoma resident and supporter of all that is good for Tacoma, including children, youth, high school and especially local sports, Stan Farber passed away Monday morning. He knew so much about each player and each game that his friends dubbed him "Facts" Farber. Stan's sports reporting originated in the late 1950's with his serving as Sports Editor of the Stadium World newspaper. After graduating Stadium High School in 1959, he went on to serve as a student Sports Information Director at the University of Puget Sound, where he graduated in 1963. He never forgot a name or number of any player from those two schools. His activities there led him to a position with the Tacoma News Tribune. In 27 years as a News Tribune sportswriter, he covered nearly every Tacoma area sport and every team. He was most proud of his coverage of the Tacoma Dome campaign, when he championed the effort to build a "Dome of Our Own" before many others even came forward. Stan also was a big Seattle Mariner fan, particularly enjoying the home games. After leaving the News Tribune, Stan formed the Farber News Service, covering local sports for various media around the country. Of the many good things he did for our community, Stan recently worked diligently on the Tacoma/Pierce County Sports Banquet of Champions, helping with his vast memory and knowledge of the local sports scene. In addition, Stan was an active member of Temple Beth El, Tacoma Elks, Nifty-50's sports organization, and a voting member of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Stan is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Adria Farber, his father Irving Farber, of Bellevue, his sister Carol and brother-in-law Roy Leibowitz of Rancho Mirage, CA; his nieces and nephews Aaron, Rebekkah and Grace Leibowitz of Renton WA; and Scott and Heather Leibowitz of Snoqualmie WA. Services will be held at Home of Peace Cemetery, 5421 Steilacoom Blvd. SW on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at 1:30p.m. In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made to Temple Beth El Scholarship or Tuition Assistance Program, 5975 South 12th St., Tacoma WA 98465.
