Obituary Sister Michael Catherine Lewis OSF (Elizabeth Rae Lewis) Sister Michael Catherine Lewis died at St. Ann Convent on October 23, 2013 at the age of 89. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis for 64 years. She was very busy during those 64 years in service to others. Sister Michael ministered as a nurse at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton, Oregon, and St. Elizabeth Hospital in Baker City, Oregon. Prior to joining the Sisters of St. Francis, she trained as nurse cadet, but did not serve in the army because of the armistice. Sister enjoyed medical and surgical nursing, and also worked in Home Health and Employee Health throughout the years. Although she was a city person, born in Cleveland, Ohio, she always loved gardening. She was well known for her lovely flowers and vegetables. She baked wonderful bread and made very delicious raspberry jam. She was a master in quilting. Her life was fulfilled in her last years in prayer ministry in St. Ann Convent. Sister Michael was preceded in death by her parents, Rayland and Mary Lewis; and her sister, Susanna Savage. A special thanks to Franciscan Hospice and to the staff of St. Ann Convent for their compassionate care of Sister Michael. All services will be held at St. Ann Convent Chapel, 6602 South Alaska St., Tacoma, WA 98408. A vigil will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 6:00pm.
