Obituary Sister Anne Heger, OP (Helen Dorothy) died peacefully at St. Joseph Residence in West Seattle on October 21 following a lengthy illness. She was born in the Wallowa Valley, Joseph Oregon, January 22, 1916. She is predeceased by her parents Edward Heger and Anna Katherine Rollinger Heger, brothers Paul and Edward, and sisters Isabel and Dorothy. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She graduated from Aquinas Academy in 1931 and entered the Dominican Novitiate at Marymount in 1932. Following her first profession in 1934 she continued her studies at Central Washington Teachers' College, Ellensburg; Seattle University; Dominican College, San Rafael; and St. Mary's, Notre Dame, IN. She received her degrees in administration, in teaching and in Gregorian Chant. She taught in the following schools staffed by the Tacoma Dominicans: Assumption, Bellingham; St Edward's, Our Lady of the Lake, Our Lady of Mt. Virgin and Holy Rosary Seattle; Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Bakersfield; St. Patrick's, Holy Cross and Marymount Academy Tacoma; and Lourdes Academy, Ellensburg and Holy Family, Kirkland. She retired from teaching after 41 years but continued to be active in other areas. She cooked for four years at Dominican House in Issaquah and ministered in home care for the disabled for two years Sister Anne then joined Sister Michele MacMillan in ministering to and with the Southeast Asian refugees and later, other ethnic groups for over twelve years. She was passionate about this work and engaged in a compassionate listening as well as empowering the women, men and children whose lives she touched. In 1996, Sister Anne moved to the Franciscan Apartments in Burien and for 10 years was a presence to the people living there. She moved to St. Joseph Residence in 2006. Services: The Vigil will be October 28 at 7:00 PM at Mt. St. Vincent Chapel in Seattle (4831 35th Ave. SW); the Funeral Liturgy will be October 29, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Residence Chapel in Seattle (4800 37th Ave. SW) and Burial will be October 30 at 1:00 PM at Calvary Cemetery, Tacoma (5212 70th St. W) Memorial donations may be made to the Dominican Sisters Retirement Fund, 935 Fawcett Ave. S., Tacoma, WA 98402.
