Sister Ann O’Sullivan OP (Mary Daniel) died peacefully at St. Joseph Residence in Seattle, October 29, 2020. Sister Ann, a native of Ireland, was born in Currahy Ballingeary, County Cork on September 24, 1926 to Daniel O’Sullivan and Margaret O’Callaghan O’Sullivan. She entered the Dominican Sisters of Tacoma, first in Crosshaven, Ireland before traveling to the United States. Sister Ann’s first profession was in 1951 and her final profession in 1955.
Sister Ann studied and received her degrees from St. Martin’s College in Olympia and Central Washington [College] in Ellensburg. She had a long ministry in teaching including St. Edward’s, Seattle; St. George, Seattle; St. Pius X, Mountlake Terrace; Holy Cross, Tacoma; St. Paul’s, Yakima; Assumption, Walla Walla and St. Vincent’s, San Diego. Her final teaching ministry was at Holy Rosary School, Tacoma, where she spent many happy years.
One of 11 children, Sister Ann was predeceased by brothers: Michael, Eugene, Danny, Jerry and John and by sisters: Maggie, Katie, Mary, Ellie and Hannah. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great and grand nieces and nephews. Sr Ann will be fondly remembered by her numerous nieces and nephews and they are sad to hear of her passing.
Sister Ann loved her visits to Ireland and was hoping for one more visit. Unfortunately, this did not happen, but she enjoyed her phone conversations with her family and friends. In 2015, she moved from her residence in Tacoma to St. Joseph Residence. Until it was not possible for her to participate, she enjoyed the weekly activities especially bingo!
Sister Ann’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on November 12 with burial at Calvary Cemetery immediately following the Liturgy.
Due to COVID restrictions, the services will be private for the Tacoma Dominican Community only.
