Obituary SISTER ANTIONETTE MARIE FERMO Sister Antoinette Marie Fermo, OSF, 82, passed away on August 5th at St. Ann's Convent in Tacoma. She was a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 61 years. Sister Antoinette (Mary Jane Fermo) was born in Tacoma, the youngest of eight children. She lived in the close-knit Italian community near St. Rita's Church. She graduated from St Leo's High School and entered the congregation in 1945. Her first vows were professed in 1948. She served in the Archdiocese of Portland for 18 years, the Archdiocese of Spokane for 34 years, and finally returning to the Archdiocese of Seattle in the remaining years. During her life she worked in domestic duties and childcare, especially at St Joseph Home, ST. Anne Home and the YWCA Daycare. She also served one year in Philadelphia in AIDS ministry with Episcopal Community Services. At the time of her death, she was a volunteer and involved with prayer ministry at St. Ann Convent in Tacoma. Sister Tonie was a kind, humble gracious lady. Her community and family were very important to her. She wrote extensively to many, never forgetting a birthday, holiday, or anniversary. She especially loved the little ones, and would often save thoughtful gifts to give each one of them. Her sister, Rose Baker, sister-in-law, Dorothy Fermo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews survive her. Sister was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Fred, Geno, George, Daniel, Johnny; and her sister Antoniette. All services will be held in St. Ann Convent Chapel, 6602 South Alaska Street, Tacoma. The vigil will be held at 6 PM on Tuesday, August 11th. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 12th at 11 AM. A Memorial Mass will also be celebrated in Spokane at St. Joseph Family Center, 1016 No. Superior Street, on Friday, August 21"t, at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name designated for St. Ann Convent can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 So.
