Sid Van Manen

November 10, 1923 — October 7, 2014

Obituary Mr. Sid van Manen, formerly of Mile Point, Ferrisburg, Vermont, died on Tuesday, 7 October 2014, in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, after a short illness. Born in Utrecht, the Netherlands in 1923, Sid took his family to the United States in 1960. He joined Simmonds Precision Products in Tarrytown, NY before being transferred to Vergennes, Vt. He was an integral part of Simmonds' contribution in the "race to space" during the 1960's, having served as Manager of the Engineering Division and later played a key role in bringing jobs and new programs to the Vergennes Division as Vice President and General Manager. In 1971 he relocated back to the Netherlands to manage a Simmonds Precision Dutch division. Although he never returned to permanently live in the U.S., he was a proud U.S. naturalized citizen who loved Mile Point, America and its beauty; visiting often and always yearning to return. Mr. van Manen is survived by his wife Coby, of Soest, the Netherlands, and his children, Dick van Manen/Joanne of Canandaigua, NY; Millie Haynes/Richard of Jacksonville, FL; Dr. Maria Mack/Dennis of Lakewood, WA; and Ron van Manen/Edith of Bergen, the Netherlands; his grandchildren, Michelle Case of San Anotnio, TX; Heather Mack of Des Moines, WA; Brooke Barrows/Howard of Los Angeles, CA; Jennifer Gaffney/Corey of Tacoma, WA; Jonathan van Manen/Jennifer of Cary, NC; Jesper van Manen of Bergen, the Netherlands; Menno van Manen of Bergen, the Netherlands; Johnna Millen of Seattle, WA; and Shanna Jamanis of Rochester, NY; and great grandchildren Dara, Taylor, Abigail, Emma, Connor, Zenin, Glykaria and Ioana .
