Obituary Sherrill M. Terpening Sherrill M. Terpening was born to Wilbur and Mabel Terpening on December 6, 1911 in Galesburg, IL and passed away on August 8, 2014 in Federal Way, WA. Sherrill graduated from Galesburg High School in 1931 and also attended Carl Sandburg College. He served in the United States Air Force from 1942-1946 as a Staff Sergeant and fought in WWII in Calcutta, India. Sherrill married Marion Peterson in 1941 and the couple spent most of their life in Galesburg. Sherrill operated a John Deere store for a time; farmed for over 20 years, was a Line Inspector at the local Maytag factory; and operated Omni Realty for over 20 years until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Galesburg, the Masonic Lodge, Vesper Chapter #584; as well as the Oneida America Legion # 727. Sherrill is preceded in death by his wife, Marion; his parents; and three brothers. He is survived by his son, David (Sharlotte) Terpening of Tacoma, WA; his brother, Kyle Terpening of Monmouth, IL; grandchildren, Dustin (Abby) Terpening, and Chandra (Garrett) Curtis; and great-grandchildren, Kyha Mae and Sadie Jane Terpening, and Isabella Marie and Daniel Charles Curtis. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 1:30pm at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Pamela Marolla officiating. Visitation will be held from noon-1:30pm prior to the service also at the Chapel. Interment at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, IL. Military honors will be provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Galesburg.
