Obituary Seth Phillip Hall, Jr. Seth was born in Oakland, California on August 13, 1925 to Seth and Nellie Hall, and passed away peacefully into hands of the Lord on August 6, 2011 just one week short of his 86th birthday, and after a 26-year fight with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. After growing up in northern Oregon, Seth attended Oregon State University and later joined the U.S. Army where he courageously served our country in World War II, earning the Purple Heart award, and in the Korean War. His service to our country brought him to New York City where he met Jennie, the love of his life. After completing his army service in 1952, Seth married Jennie and they relocated to Tacoma, Washington where they began their married life together and raised a family. Seth also began his career in 1952 working for International Business Machines, and after 38 years of dedicated service to IBM he retired in 1990, and moved to Elma to enjoy the outdoors in his retirement with his beloved wife. He enjoyed fly fishing, handyman activities, ham radio, clock making, tinkering with computers, and until his physical condition would no longer allow, fifth-wheel traveling. Seth was preceded in death by his parents, and survived by Jennie, his wife of 58 years; his five children Jeanne, Lee, Seth III, Carol (Jeff) Serdar Tepper, and John (Sophia); his eleven grandchildren, Theresa, Nicholas, Emily, Travis, Nate, Chanel, Cecilia, Benjamin, Cali, Joseph, and Katie; and his two great-grandchildren, Elliana and Madilynn. He is also survived by his brother Alan Hall of Oregon and three nieces. Although now gone from our presence, you will always be remembered by the values you instilled in us, by what you taught us through your example as our father and grandfather, and for how much you loved all of us in good times and in bad times. We will miss you very much and will cherish our memories of you forever. A private memorial will be held Thursday, August 11, 2011. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Seth's memory, either to a local chapter or to VFW Post 3452, 18820 SW Boones Ferry Road, Tualatin, Oregon 97062-9443.
