A flight Scott Dale Koponen took on March 9, 1977, changed his life forever. And on November 27, 2020, he took his final flight home to join our Heavenly Father.
That short trip from Spokane to Seattle in 1977 is where Scott met his future wife, Chris, who decided she would sit next to the “most handsome man” on the plane. When the plane landed, Scott, in true Scott fashion, offered Chris a ride from the airport. Less than a year later, on February 4, 1978, they were married. It was truly a match made in heaven.
Scott loved spending time with his wife, Chris, morning coffee together was a highlight of their day. Since 2014, Scott worked in sales at Cimco, in the underground utilities industry. A servant at heart, Scott also enjoyed spending time with his children, his grandchildren, and his latest “fling” — a 1976 convertible Volkswagen Beetle. Road trips, music, golf, acting, and just being with friends and family were among his life passions. Scott was easygoing, fun loving and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Scott was born in Yakima on May 2, 1954. He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Koponen; mother, Geraldine Leitch; and his stepfather, Wayne Leitch. He is survived by his wife, Chris; his children, Justin Koponen, Leah (Nye) Ohrberg, Rosanne (Lander) Martinson, and Alana Koponen; his brother, Forrest (Kathy) Koponen; and his grandchildren, Blake, Bailey, Andrew, Dylan, Gavin, Ethan, Nigel, Kjell, Lily, Eva, Eden, and Lars.
A private family burial will take place at Woodbine Cemetery in Puyallup on Thursday, December 3, 2020, and a Celebration of Life with family and friends will be held sometime in early 2021.
