Obituary Salli Mitchell was born March 25, 1936 in Tacoma, WA to William and Erma Harris and died March 25, 2007 after an 8 year battle with cancer. She grew up near N 30th and Proctor attending, Washington Elementary, Mason Middle School, and Stadium High. As a freshman, she attended UW and became a member of Phi Mu Sorority, where she was recently recognized for 50 years of membership. The following year she came back to Tacoma and attended the College of Puget Sound where she met her future husband, Bob Mitchell. She was a teacher for 49 years, working in the University Place School District for 40 years and then continuing her passion at St Mary's Episcopal in Lakewood into the current school year. She was an early recipient of the PTA Golden Acorn Award at Narrowsview Elementary. Together, she and Bob owned Bob's Pier and the Huntsman Restaurant. On the weekends, from 1995-2000, Salli enjoyed greeting guests at McCabe's where they affectionately referred to her as "Mom". Salli was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her sister Shirlee Fleischman of Seattle, children Roberta (Todd) Olson of Tacoma, Marsha Joy of Everett and Robert (Marcie) Mitchell of Tacoma, grandchildren Lauren Mitchell, Andrea Dunn, Mathew (Hannah) Joy and Nicole (Chris) Remington, great-grandchildren Christian & Izabelle Joy, Anna Remington & Anthony Marvel, years of treasured students and a passion for the color orange! A special thanks to Dr. Frank Senecal and the staff at Hematology Oncology NW for their years of guidance and support. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 27, 2007 from 9 am - 6 pm at Gaffney Funeral Home. Vigil services will be held Tuesday at 7:30 pm at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 11:00 am at 7112 S 12th, Tacoma, WA, Interment at New Tacoma Cemetery. Salli requests those in attendance wear something bright and cheerful!
