S. Alan Weaver

March 17, 1938 — January 26, 2019

Obituary S. Alan Weaver of Gig Harbor, Washington passed away on January 26, 2019 at age 80 following complications resulting from a fall while playing pickleball, a sport he greatly loved. He was born in Spokane, Washington on March 17, 1938, to Frank P. Weaver and Margaret Hay Weaver, and moved with his family to Olympia in 1951 when his father was appointed as a justice of the Washington State Supreme Court. Al graduated from Olympia High School, then attended Stanford University, followed by the University of Washington School of Law and New York University School of Law. Al married Nancy Ann Harkness (his beloved "Hark") in 1964 and together they enjoyed 55 years of marriage and many active and exotic travels across the globe. Al spent his long and distinguished law career as a partner in the Tacoma firm of Eisenhower & Carlson; he was devoted to his trusts and estates practice, which he carried out with precision and grace. He loved sports of all kinds and was an avid runner, swimmer, triathlete, tennis player and pickleball player. Al had a gift for forming communities; he was proud to be an inaugural member and leader of a running group that has been meeting every Saturday since 1979. He delighted in his wide and diverse group of friends from his running group, Driftwood Cove, Bible study, Rotary, Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church, YMCA, Greater Tacoma Community Foundation and the Tacoma Narrows Bridge Citizen Advisory Committee. He is remembered for his love of exacting detail, his great integrity, his dry humor and his steady and judicious temperament. He was a devoted man of faith. He is survived by his wife Nancy; his sister Sarah Weaver; his sister-in-law Toni Weaver; his brother-in-law Fred Harkness; his daughters Amy Weaver and Mary Weaver Chapin, and their husbands, Jeff Fisher and Steve Chapin; as well as five adoring grandchildren: Matthew, Nicholas, Oliver, Andrew and Sadie; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Gig Harbor on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a reception at the Canterwood Country Club. If desired, donations in his memory may be directed to the Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH Food Bank and Community Services; Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church; the Tacoma Rescue Mission; or the Salvation Army. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7) Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home
