Obituary Ruth Julianna Hollo-Newell Ruth Julianna Newell died gracefully on March 5, 2013 at 6pm after fighting CLL and lymphoma for the past few years. She was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts on July 26, 1941 to Stephen and Ruth Hollo. She grew up in many different areas, as her father was in the military and the family went where he was stationed. Ruth is survived by her husband Bill Newell, and siblings Sandra Johndro, Stephen Hollo (Verlyn), Frank Hollo (Susan), Teresa Kuzmenko (Frank), Valerie McNatt (Gene), and Mary Hollo. She is also survived by her children, Pete Koolis (Cheryl), Stephen Koolis, Robert Koolis (Stephanie), Ruth Hudgings (Michael), Karen Chambers (Jeff), and Chet Forde, bonus children James Koolis (Stacie), Heather Steffl (Brian), Jennifer Gallaway (Mel), and Karl Newell (LeAnn Lennon). She was a very special nana to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a wonderful aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Stephen and Ruth Hollo, daughter Kristine Forde, granddaughter Michelle, and great-grandson Tony. Ruth was a wonderful mother and friend. She loved all her family and enjoyed her bonus children tremendously. She went back to get her degree later in life, where she met her husband Bill, and found her calling in helping others through the Tacoma Community College Financial Aid Office. She cared about all the students she helped on their journey for higher education and a better way of life. Ruth was active with her chapter of Catholic Daughters. She had a great talent for crocheting and knitting blankets and Care Bears. She especially had a soft spot for the Garden of Angels, babies that had been abandoned and died alone; she did not want them buried without a warm, soft, handmade blanket from someone who cared. She will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her. A memorial Rosary and Mass at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Lakewood, Washington will take place March 22, 2013 at 11 a.m., with a reception immediately following. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home.
