Obituary Mom died peacefully, after a seven year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Ruth passed with Blake, her loving husband of 68 years, and beloved father of their seven children, at her bedside. They are Robin Tiehen, Steve, Paul, Nancy, William, Tom, and John Hirsh. Born to Edna and Harris T. Vernier in Havre, Montana. "Ruthie" was the youngest of five children, grew up in Portland, attended Parkrose H.S., and Oregon State University. Her sisters, Helen Grant, Dorothy Curtis, and brothers, Phil and Don Vernier, are predeceased, but fondly remembered and never to be forgotten. She was a Rose Festival Princess in 1940. Mom remained joyful and energetic as a mother, grandmother (15), and great-grandmother, (15). She cherished her home and neighborhood as well as skiing, sailing, golf, bridge, friends and family. She ran or walked several S2Ns and challenged each of her grandkids to develop their unique talents. We thank the Olympic Alzheimer's Residence and Franciscan Hospice for their loving care and expertise. A funeral mass and reception will be held at Holy Cross Church, 5510 N. 44th, Tacoma, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 6th, where she was a devoted parishioner there for more than fifty years.
