Obituary Rose Marie E. "Rosie" Peterson Rosie was born in Seattle on March 13, 1930 and passed away peacefully on January 23, 2008 at the age of 77. She spent her early years in Ellensburg, moved to Seattle in grade school and then to Tacoma in 1941. Rosie graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948. After graduation, she went to work at Woolworth's. Early in her life she became involved in community service. She moved through the chairs of The International Order of Rainbow for Girls to become a worthy advisor. The Girls Service Organization recognized her as "Girl of the Month" for her volunteerism. Rosie was president of the U.S.O. She loved the friends and memories made during her U.S.O. years. On New Year's Eve, 1955, her best friend Juanita Modgelin introduced her to John Peterson. They were engaged by April and married in August. Rosie was a warm, gracious, kind and loving mother. She was involved in activities at Holy Rosary parish and school. Whitman Elementary PTA recognized her volunteerism with the "Golden Acorn" Award. As her children grew older, Rosie went back to work for Tacoma Public Schools, Food Services. She retired in 1990. Rosie loved family, cooking, reading, gardening, boating and her children's friends. She is survived by her daughters Julia, Shirley, son Jon (Debi Zielinski) all of Tacoma and her honorary son Frank Miele (Sue) of Renton, sisters Eloise Stock and Elaine (Glen) Delozier of Tri-Cities, three nieces and many great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband John and niece Barb Irwin. A celebration of Rosie's life will be hosted by the family, on Saturday, March 15th from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Tacoma Outboard Association (646 Wilton Road).
