Roger William Sadler

Roger William Sadler died on January 24, 2024, in Gig Harbor, Washington. Roger was born on February 9, 1937, in St. Maries, Idaho to parents Ed and Lorraine (Acre) Sadler. He was the younger sibling of two brothers, Richard and Robert, and sister Edna (Ted). His cousin Patricia was his sibling in heart.

In 1954, Roger graduated from St. Maries High School. Roger worked for his brother Robert in his land and surveying business, and served in the US military from 1958 to 1962, most notably as an instructor at the US Army Engineering School in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. After the military, Roger attended the University of Idaho and obtained his Bachelor's degree. Roger was a life-long enthusiast of learning, and in 1975 attended the UCLA Executive Program in Management. Roger was a registered professional manufacturing engineer.

In 1963, Roger married Nancy Jean Mullen and the couple began their 60+ years of moving adventures. Much loved daughter Brenda joined them in Knob Noster, Missouri. The Sadler family lived thereafter in Sedalia, Missouri; Huntsville, Alabama; Cheyenne, Wyoming; Washington, DC; Binghamton, New York; West Los Angeles, California; Montréal, Canada; Buenos Aires, Argentina; San Diego, California, Crystal City Virginia, Austin Texas, and Gig Harbor Washington.

Roger spent his career as a Project Manager, Aerospace Engineering Executive, and consummate start-up Team Leader in many environments. Roger was proudest of his service for The Boeing Company, the Apollo Man-on-the Moon Program, the Minuteman Program, the Saturn V Program, and the 1976 Summer Olympics, as well as his work for Systems Development Corporation, the Singer Company, AMEX Systems, Allied Bendix Corporation, and Tracor Inc. Roger was a member of the Security Affairs Support Association, the Association of Old Crows, the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, the American Electronics Association and the Barton Creek Country Club.

Roger retired in 1999, and devoted himself thereafter to family, garden design, golf, and travel. Roger took joy in gardening, his annual winter road trips with Nancy " down south", attending every one of his grandkids' activities and events, excellence in all its forms, attending sporting events and watching them on TV, and spending time with his friends and neighbors, especially Don Rifenbery and Bryan Metcalf. Roger and Bryan went for day trips many-a-Thursday, in the later years lovingly chauffeured by Roger's namesake grandson, Sadler. Roger loved to read, and each year made a schedule of reading lists from graduate courses and listening opportunities through The Great Courses program, to continue to learn about "how the world works". Roger threw himself and Nancy 100% into seasonal and holiday decorating, with a monthly rotating ever-growing array of visual and musical delights.

Those who yearn to feel this spirit of festivity one more time include his wife, Nancy, his daughter, Brenda Bono (Steve) of Gig Harbor, and his grandchildren, Sadler Bono and Stephanie Bono. The family would like to extend their thanks and heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Jennifer Slim, and the care givers at Tacoma General Hospital, Cottesmore of Life Care, Gig Harbor Health and Rehabilitation, and Hospice, for their loving care of Roger. There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial reception in the Salish Rooms of Ocean5, 5268 NW Point Fosdick Dr in Gig Harbor, WA 98335, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 11:30 am. We will gather to eat, drink, listen to live jazz, share stories and swing a golf club in Roger's honor. In lieu of flowers, Nancy asks you to consider a donation to the Tunnels to Tower Foundation.
