Robert Stumpf

Robert Stumpf passed away on August 2, 2021. He was welcomed into the world by Katherine and Anton Stumpf on May 12, 1934, in Huff, North Dakota. As a young boy, he went to church every morning with his family before school. He worked on the family farm and loved to tell the grandkids that he "earned a dollar a week." At age 16, he took the train to Tacoma by himself to visit his sister Mary, then returned home for his car and moved there. He found work at a floor covering store, where he met Ray Carlson. Soon Meyer Floor Covering came up for sale and they decided to purchase it. Robert was only 19 so he asked his sister Francis to co-sign, since he wasn't 21. He later met his beloved wife Dorothy, and they were married on April 13, 1957. They moved to Monterrey, California while he served in the military. Upon completion of his service, they moved back to Tacoma. He resumed his role at Meyer Floor Covering where he worked until his retirement at age 49. Over the years, he built a very successful business well known for the high quality of work and excellent customer service he provided. Robert is remembered by all who knew him for his huge smile, genuine care for all people, sound advice, and his deep Catholic faith. He was a humble, loving man with a kind and generous heart, along with a great sense of humor. Robert was a hard worker who was never known to sit still. He built the family home in Fircrest, and a cabin on the Sol Duc River in Forks, WA. Many referred to him as the greatest fisherman of all times. He was well known for his sweet tooth, enjoying all of Dorothy's homemade goods, especially pie and Dairy Queen ice cream. He had many hobbies including model trains, fishing, and spending time with all his family. He also loved sports, especially the Seahawks. He volunteered regularly at St. Charles, Union Train Station, and the food bank every Monday. He always saw the good in everyone, was deeply faithful, and a true servant to everyone.

He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Ann Stumpf, 8 children (Joan, Deborah, Karen, John, Lisa, Mary, Cheryl, Stephanie), over 30 grandkids/great grandkids, and 3 siblings. He is preceded in death by his parents, his grandchildren John and Keely, and 8 siblings.

Services will be held at St. Charles Borromeo in Tacoma on Friday, August 6th, at 9am.
