Robert Danforth Shenkel

Obituary Robert D. Shenkel Robert "Red" Shenkel, of Gig Harbor, died Sunday July 2, at the age of 86 years. He was a long time resident of Tacoma and a member of Sacred Heart Parish. In 1990 Robert and Lucille, (His devoted wife of 64 years), moved to Gig Harbor and became members of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. A veteran of WWII, Robert was a member of the 3rd Division Infantry and received a Purple Heart. For more than 30 years he worked at the Internal Revenue in downtown Tacoma and spent his vacation time working at the Puyallup Fair. Robert was a long time member of the Bellarmine Boosters and the Eagles. Robert loved animals, loved to dance and was a regular Sunday afternoon pool player at the Tides Tavern. Robert and Lucille have four children, Dudley (deceased), Michael, Romona Basher, and Laura Gadbow. They also were blessed with 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 8, 2006, 11:00, St. Nicholas Catholic Church, with a reception to follow. Private interment at Calvary Cemetery.
