Obituary Robert "Bob" Schmidt Robert "Bob" Schmidt (73) passed peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Sunday, June 24th at 1:55pm. Bob was born in Taylor, North Dakota on Sept 27, 1938, the second son of Anton and Beatrice (Holte) Schmidt. He had his first trip in 1941 to Washington State where his father was employed in the shipyards as a welder. He attended Parkland Grade School, and graduated from Franklin-Pierce High School in 1956. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Marine Corp. Upon returning from the marines the "telephone factory," where he worked for 45 years in Washington, Oregon and California. In California he was fortunate enough to work in the movie studios, and saw the very first filming of "I Dream of Genie." He also worked in the Disney Studios, and was well acquainted by Mr. and Mrs. Disney. Bob was a very avid bowler, and participated in many tournaments across the United States. He was a member of the Washington Midget Racing Association and for a time, served as their flagger. He was extremely active in the Washington State Grange. He held both local and state offices; in particular, Deputy Master for Pierce County, State Overseer, and Membership Chairman. In more recent times, Bob could be found doting on his several grandchildren, and enjoyed spoiling them. On Wednesday mornings, Bob would often be in attendance at The Rose in Puyallup, "chatting it up" with retired colleagues. He enjoyed making leatherwork, traveling, and was meticulous about his yard work and often called it "the putting green." He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Carol Thompson, his children Jason Schmidt (Dina), Dale Schmidt (Shawnna), Tamara Krause (Gary), Teresa Baskett (Adam), and step children Christopher Lasher and Catherine Gregory (Adam). He is also survived by eight grandchildren; Alex, Joshua, Emily, Jon, Hannah, Allison, Patsy, and Gavin. Surviving brothers and sisters include Duane Schmidt (Linda), Leonard Schmidt (Shirley), Lauretta Wright, Linda Manard, MaryLou Anderson, Jeannie Simmons (Jim) and Larry Schmidt (Jeri). He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Anthony and Joseph in infancy, Beverly Arney and Cynthia Michaelis. Funeral services are Friday, June 29th 12:10pm, St. Leo's Parish at 710 S 13th Street, Tacoma.
