Robert Gregory Mcgann

Robert Gregory McGann died peacefully on the Lord’s Day, Sunday, October 23, 2022, in Puyallup, WA, after a 2-year battle with cancer.  Born on All Saint’s Day, November 1, 1936, to Greg and Irene (Gustat) McGann in Joliet, IL, Bob lived a full and wonderful life.  He grew up in Ottawa, IL, and graduated from Marquette High School in 1954.  After graduation from Marquette University in 1958, Bob joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country for 27 years.  Bob, along with wife Elise (Wareham) McGann and son, R.G., eventually settled in Honolulu, HI, in 1981 with his final naval assignment.  He lived in Honolulu for 30 years before moving to Washington State to be a full-time grandfather.

Bob was a devout Catholic and served many roles in the Church; he especially enjoyed bringing communion to the sick in the community with the Legion of Mary.  He enjoyed sports, especially playing golf and watching his beloved Chicago White Sox and Washington Redskins.  He loved music and had a beautiful singing voice, and he played the organ, keyboard, guitar, and ukulele whenever he could.  He discovered cooking later in life and shared recipes with friends and family.  Bob was a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened.  He was kind, compassionate, and a humble, dedicated servant of God … and his wit was just how he liked his martini—dry.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister Kay, brother Paul, wife Elise, and daughter K.K.  He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, R.G. & Melissa, three grandchildren, Emily, Keira, and Andrew, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at St. Frances Cabrini Church in Lakewood, WA at 11am (Rosary at 10:30am).  In lieu of flowers, Bob would much prefer you donate your money to any of these worthy charities: Catholic Charities of Pierce County , Fred Hutch Cancer Center , and Tunnel to Towers .
