Obituary In loving memory of Richard F. Schumaker Richard F. Schumaker, who passed away on September 8, 2007, will be laid to rest on September 14th, 2007, to join his beloved wife in heaven on their 60th wedding anniversary. Harriet (Giske) Schumaker predeceased him on July 13, 1999. Richard, born 90 years ago, was the son of Joseph H. Schumaker and Isabel (Schlosser) Schumaker. His work ethic and generous spirit were developed during his early years, working alongside his grandfather, in Corpus Christi and Sherman, Texas after the unexpected and early death of his father. He is survived by his sister Elizabeth "Boots" Boyer; his children, Mary Jo Schumaker; Fredrick Schumaker and wife Debra. His grandchildren, Heather L Schossow; Jesse Schossow and wife Kristin; Jennifer Schossow and husband Ken Schatz; Rebekah Schumaker and fiancé Ryan Mustoe; Zakary Schumaker and wife Becca. Also by his great grand children Anna Grace Schumaker and Alexander J Schumaker; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. Richard proudly served his country for 30 years with the U.S. Navy including both World War II and the Korean War. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor who served on the U.S.S. Tennessee BB-43. He also was stationed on the U.S.S. Topeka CL-67, the U.S.S. Cimarron AO-22, the U.S.S. Oriskany CVA-34, and the U.S.S. Forrestal CVA-59. It was during his Navy career that he met his beloved future wife, Harriet, a Navy nurse at the time, on a blind date. Upon retirement from the Navy, Richard worked for Tacoma Boat Builders for ten years. He will always be admired for his generous spirit, resourceful intellect, and remarkable wit. He was truly a great man and will be missed by all. We were very lucky to have known and loved him as long as we were able. A Funeral Mass will be held in celebration of his life at 11:00 am on Friday, September 14, 2007 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 7112 S 12th Street, Tacoma, WA 98465. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, the Catholic Relief Fund, St Joseph Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
