He married the love of his life, Judy, in 1961. With Judy, they raised 6 children. His military duties took the family to different states and countries over the years including Japan, Phillipines and England. Richard's military assignment brought himand his family to Washington State. He loved Washington and decided this was the perfect location to retire. After retirement, he put his talents to work at the Boeing Aerospace Company as an aircraft mechanic where he worked for over 20 years. Richard and Judy enjoyed traveling and took many trips over the years including trips to Ireland, Poland, France and Italy, where the highlight was seeing Pope John Paul II up close as he drove by in the Popemobile. After Judy passed away in 2005, Richard devoted much of his free time to volunteering at St. Charles Parish. He was a go-to-guy for repairs, painting, RCIA, Eucharistic Minister, driving duties, weekly bread runs to help feed the homeless at the Nativity House, visiting the sick and other tasks as needed. He was very active in 40 Days for Life, which helps to protect the unborn. He also travelled to Honduras on a church-sponsored medical mission. Richard especially enjoyed photography. He became somewhat of a historian around the church taking photographs of many church events, including Vacation Bible School, Anniversary Dinners, Advent Workshops and many other events. He would then create beautiful slide shows for participants and church members as a keepsake. Throughout his years at St. Charles, Richard served on the school board, parish council and most recently in the Knights of Columbus as the Grand Knight. He was very proud of his participation and contribution to the Knights. He enjoyed his church family and made many long lasting friendships with many of his church friends.
