Obituary Richard John Mazza Sr. was taken to be with our heavenly father on 7-1-2010 after his battle with Cardiomyopathy. Richard was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. He left his home town when he joined the Air Force at the age of 19 years. While stationed at McCord Air Force Base he met his lifelong partner Shirley. They married on July 28th 1956 and celebrated 50 years of life together raising a family. Richard was an active member of Visitation Catholic Church and his community. He was a 39 yr. member of the Lakes Moose Lodge #1865, Knights of Columbus Council #12483, Veterans of Foreign War Post #91 and Span-A-Park Eagles 3563. His love for sports led him to coach many teams throughout his life; he also loved playing darts and Texas Hold Em. Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by his seven children, Richard Jr., Ronald Sr., Debbie, Robert Sr., Donna Jones (James), Randy and Ryan, his 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and his sisters Rose (TX), Virginia (NJ), Stella (NJ), Carol (NJ), Rita (NJ) and 18 nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his wife Shirley A Mazza, granddaughter Heather A Jones, and siblings, Katherine, John and Mary. Richard touched many hearts and lives; he will be dearly missed by his family, extended family and friends. Viewing will be held on Sunday July 11th 2010 from 10:00 am - 7:00pm at Gaffney Funeral Chapel, 1002 S. Yakima Ave. Tacoma, WA 98405. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Monday, July 12th 2010 at Visitation Catholic Church at 3314 S. 58th St. Tacoma, WA 98405. There will be a reception to follow and the place will be announced after the funeral. This is pot luck and we are asking for your help with donations of your favorite salad or dessert. On Tuesday July 13th 2010 at 11:00am will be Richard's interment at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240TH Kent, WA 98402. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice in Richard's honor.
