Obituary Fr. Ralph Carney FR Ralph F Carney of Tacoma, passed away Sunday August 26, 2012. He was the Catholic Chaplain at Madigan Army Hospital up until the time of his death. Born On Feb 6, 1923 in Washington, DC He was the son of Helen Saffell Carney and Francis E. Carney. He was the Brother of Dorothy Carney Malik and Joan Carney, all of whom predeceased him. His niece, Patricia Malik Abbott, also predeceased him. He is survived by his beloved Niece, Stephanie Malik Stephens her husband Michael, Hartfield, Virginia, their children, Kinsley Stepka , Morgan Abbott , and Christopher Stephens, and a great-great niece and nephew , Jackson Stepka and Ashilyn Abbott. After serving in the US Navy, he attended the seminary where he was ordained a Franciscan priest on June 12, 1953. He re-entered the military as a Catholic Chaplain in the U.S. Air Force, where he served the allotted time per Franciscan doctrine. Wanting to continue to serve in the military he became a diocesan priest and once again reentered the service in the US Army. He was awarded 3 bronze stars and The Soldiers Medal in the Army. After retirement, he attended Catholic University where he received his doctorate in Psychology. After internship at St Elizabeth's in Washington DC, He accepted a job at Western State Hospital where he was the Catholic Chaplain and a Psychologist. From this retirement, he went on to St . John Bosco's in Lakewood where he became the parish priest. From retirement there, he continued to serve as the Catholic Chaplain of Pastoral Care at Madigan Army Hospital. It was his joy to be able to say Mass every day, and visit the patients. Rosary will be Wednesday, September 5, 2012, 7pm, at St John Bosco Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 11 am, St John Bosco Catholic Church. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery Washington D.C. FAIRWINDS my sweet Uncle!
