Obituary Phil was born in Christopher, Illinois on December 28, 1923 to Phillip and Mary Kuchan. He grew up in Seattle on Beacon Hill where he attended Franklin High School. He then joined the Navy and was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. While stationed in Tacoma, Phil met "the love of his life", Dorothy Lavorato who was working at the Puget Sound shipyards. They were married on June 8, 1946. After discharge from the Navy, Phil began his lifetime career in banking. Phil's enthusiasm for life was shown through a variation of activities and interests. He was a lifelong golfer and a passionate Husky fan of 50 years. He loved gardening and cooking for his family, especially on the barbecue. Phil was enthusiastic about all sports and in his early years was a referee for both basketball and baseball. He loved traveling to attend Navy reunions, Husky games and to watch golf matches and baseball spring training. He was a dedicated member of the Elk's Club for many years. He supervised voting at the polls and was interested in politics and government affairs, often expressing himself through editorials in the newspaper. He was preceded in death by Dorothy, his wife of 54 years. He is survived by daughter, Laurel (Steve) Barker, son, Dan (Karen) Kuchan, grandchildren Allyson Barker (John Ruple) and Jess Barker, Cindy (Russ) Osiecki, Scott Teitge, in-laws Marion, Fred and George Gressman. Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 7, 2007 at 10:30 am at Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Tahoma National Cemetery.
