Obituary Pearl Evelyn Hardin came into this world to brighten the lives of her parents, Lawrence and Catherine Hardin of Woodland, Idaho on November 26, 1939. Pearl was later joined by a sister and brother. The family resided at Woodland, ID where she attended school from first through eighth grades. Pearl was active in 4-H club both in the livestock and the homemaker divisions. While attending Woodland Friends Church, Pearl was active in the Christian Youth Endeavor. She and her sister Fran and two neighbor young men formed a quartet and traveled around singing at churches and other events during High School years and brought sunshine to many. Pearl was very academic, winning youth speech contest in 1953 and traveled to Portland to compete there, also winning the 4-H judging contest in the fall of 1956. Pearl attended High School in Orofino and graduated in 1957. Pearl begin her career in mental health while working for State Hospital North in Orofino for two years and then transferred to Western State Hospital in Tacoma WA in 1960. She graduated from Fort Steilacum Community College in 1980 and received a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling. Pearl was extremely passionate and lobbied for a number of issues in the legislature and accomplished much in changing the laws to provide for the needs of handicapped. She conducted a private practice as a Mental Health Counselor for many years retiring only recently due to ill health. Pearl was also instrumental the 1960s by orchestrating changes which resulted in women being accepted into the Rotary Clubs of America. She became a member of Rotary and was chosen to travel to Sweden for one year of study in the early 1970's. Pearl was actively involved in the Rotary and was honored in 2003 by being chosen as the President elect of her Tacoma club. She was very involved in charitable work throughout the area and was well known as an advocate for the less fortunate. Being very interested in the lives of all her nephews and nieces she is credited for exposing many of them to the Arts by taking them individually to operas, theater and musical events in Seattle WA. He infectious laughter, loving concern and thoughtfulness will be missed by all those who knew her. She is survived by one sister, Francene Olivia (Hoyt) Baker of Phoenix, AZ, one brother, Paul Lewis Hardin and wife, Beth, of Woodland, several cousins, nephews, nieces, and many friends and business associates. She was proceeded in death by one brother, John Lawrence Hardin, Her mother and father, Lawrence and Catherine Hardin, a nephew, Paul S. Hoyt.
