Pearl Louise Nolan

Obituary Pearl (Penny) L. Nolan born Nov. 17, 1917, died Jan.16, 2011. The oldest of four children of Louis and Hazel Aicher of Barron, Wisconsin. Graduating from Barron High School, Penny entered nursing training at Rochester, Mn. and graduated from Kahler School of Nursing in 1942. She married Army Air Force Lieutenant Paul Nolan, stationed at Fort George Wright in Spokane, Washington Nov. 16, 1942. Following training as a B-17 pilot, a daughter Mary Ann was born and Paul departed for service with the Fifth Air Force in the South Pacific following General McArthur from Australia to Okinawa,where the war ended. Paul graduated from Law School at the University of Washington in 1949. Admitted to the State Bar, the family moved to Tacoma where Paul joined the City Attorney's staff in the Old City Hall. Following the City charter change he served as principal attorney for the Public Utility Department in its new complex on 38th St. Paul served as Director of Tacoma Public Utilities Dept. Penny was past president of Tacoma Bar Auxiliary, the Catholic Woman's Club, and local DAR chapter. She is survived by Paul, son Tom, her brother Don and his daughters Michelle and Sharon Aicher and by three grandsons Brian, David and Andrew Osterbeck. Penny enjoyed playing bridge, and traveled in Europe, Canada, and Mexico. She enjoyed her Old Town shoreline morning walks with many friends. The funeral services will be at St.Patrick's Church, Thursday Jan. 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home 253-572-6003.
