Paul Newman Robinson

Obituary DR. PAUL NEWMAN ROBINSON Paul N. Robinson was born July 17, 1928 in Tacoma, WA, son of David and Sarah (Gallagher) Robinson, died Dec. 15, 2008. He grew up on B Street in Tacoma, attended Sacred Heart grade school, graduated from Bellarmine High School, Class of 1945. He studied at Gonzaga University and the University of Innsbruck, graduating with a B.A., followed by MA and PhD degrees from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a major in Anglo-Irish Literature. His teaching career in Washington State was at Gonzaga Prep, Gonzaga University and Seattle University. In 1970, he became a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh's Johnstown campus for four years. He then served at the University of Pittsburgh's Bradford campus as Academic Dean for five years where he taught and additional eleven years before retiring as Professor Emeritus in 1990 to Bellevue, WA. He enjoyed sports, travel, theatre, reading, crossword puzzles, golfing at the Tacoma courses, and gatherings with "the good guys", his friends of many years. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Betty (White) Lutt Robinson, his brother Fr. Lawrence Robinson, S.J. of Portland, sister-in-law Diane Robinson of Kirkland, brother-in-law Gene Rupel of Yakima, sister-in-law Jean (Dave) Looy of Canada, and step-son Paul Lutt of Arlington, WA. He was pre-deceased by brothers Jim and Dave Robinson, sister Sadie Rupel. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Tacoma, reception to follow. If desired, memorials in his name may be sent to the Jesuit Retirement Fund, P.O. Box 86010, Portland, OR 97286-0010.
