Patricia “Pat” Ann Pickett passed away in the early morning of December 9, 2021 at 77 years of age. Despite her hard-fought battle against ongoing medical complications for nearly 10 months, Pat never failed to face each day with quiet strength and unwavering faith.
Pat was born to Aldo and Vera Ugulini on November 2, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from Ankeny High School where she was involved in band, cheerleading, sports, journalism, and crowned as Homecoming Queen. After graduating, she attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines, Iowa where she earned her registered nursing degree. She married James “Jim” Pickett, and together, they had one daughter, Marisa. They were happily married for 55 years. Together, they moved to Washington where Jim was stationed at Fort Lewis Army base and completed his military service. Pat had a successful 42-year career working as a dedicated nurse and administrator at Western State Hospital as the Assistant Director of Nursing.
Pat filled her days with her passions, serving as an active member of many groups, including investing, scrapbooking and Bible study groups. Anyone who knew Pat would describe her clever wit, her sharp mind, her compassion for others, and her gentle spirit. Often, she could be found tending to her beautiful garden, cheering on her Seahawks, cooking, or making homemade tortellini with her beloved family during the holidays. She was a loving wife, an inspiration and treasured confidant to her daughter and granddaughters, and a dear friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Jim Pickett, her daughter, Marisa Caruso (Anthony) her two grand-daughters, Mariella and Christina, her brother Thomas Ugulini (Denise) her niece, Nicole and many relatives in the Midwest.
Deepest thanks and gratitude to all of the “angels here on earth” that helped Pat and gave her excellent and compassionate care.
