Obituary Norbert Beckman Life Celebration Norbert Beckman passed away surrounded by his loving family July 20, 2007. He was born 81 years ago, May 2, 1926. He was raised in Ashford, WA by his beloved parents Bill and Erna Beckman, German immigrants who came to the Northwest to make a better life. He served in the U.S. Navy 1944-46. Norbert was a 42 year employee of Pacific Northwest Bell (Qwest). He worked in Burien and Tacoma facilities. In 1956, he was stricken with polio. While physically limited from the disease, he was never limited in his sense of humor, dedication to his family or his work. Norbert cherished his blended family, holiday gatherings and special events. These centered on the family home. Norbert, with a twinkle in his eye, was the center of much good humor, teasing and laughter. He loved his hobby collecting model trains. Norbert is survived by his wife of 37 years, Helen M. Beckman and by his two children and their spouses, Colleen (Bruce) Glidden and Ken (Channa) Beckman. He is also survived by two of his step-children, Larry (Liane) Long, Gary (Rudy) Long-Saavedra. Preceding him in death were Jerry long and Theresa (Long) Strobe. He is also survived by his four grandchildren Carolyn and Nicholas Glidden, Will and Emme Kate Beckman, and by an extended family of 15 grandchildren to great-great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Cottesmore for all the loving and thoughtful care they provided. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 27, 2007 at the Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution to the charity of your choice.
