Nancy Eleanor Larsen

June 7, 1922 — January 7, 2009

Obituary Nancy Ellenor Larsen passed away peacefully on January 7th, 2009. She was born June 7th, 1922 to Ida and William J. Asselstine in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. She was preceded in death by her brother Jim, and husband Byron I. Larsen. She spent her early childhood near the Alaska panhandle in the mining camp of Premier, British Columbia, where her father was chief metallurgical engineer for the company. In her early teens the family moved to Victoria BC when her father was elected to the British Columbia Parliament as Minister of Mines. She attended Victoria College which back then was housed in Craigdarroch Castle. She later graduated in 1945 from University of Manitoba with a Bachelors of Science in Home Economics. She moved to Seattle P-I in the late 1940's writing for the Prudence Penny page during an era when not many women were working in the newspaper business. A story she loved to tell was when the Seafair pirates playfully Kidnapped her from the P-I. Later she worked at KING television helping with the King's Queen Show hosted by Bea Donovon. She met her husband during Opening Day in Seattle and they spent 56 years together in Tacoma. Her years were full, raising her two children, attending garden and bridge club, playing golf and doing hospital volunteer work where she enjoyed rocking newborn babies. Her children Chris and Bill Larsen and her grandsons Max and Jack Larsen survive her. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Gaffney Chapel, 1002 S. Yakima Ave. Tacoma. Please leave online condolences at www.GaffneyCares.com. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home, 253-572-6003.
