Nancy Gee Locke peacefully left her home and family on the 7th of February. Nancy’s 86-year journey through life began on the 20th day of March in 1934. She was born and raised by Florence and Harry Berry in Tacoma, WA. Nancy went to Sherman Elementary School, Mason Junior High, and Stadium High School. She then went to the University of Washington, joined the Tri-Delt Sorority, and met her first husband Darrell while at UW. They were married in 1955. Not long after they were married Darrell, who was in the Navy, received his orders to go to Japan. Darrell left first and Nancy followed him a month later. It was a 12-day trip over the Pacific on a ship called The American Mail and Nancy was 2 months pregnant at the time, with her first child, Debbi. Darrell, Nancy, and Debbi lived in Japan until 1956. When Debbi was 14 months old, they all moved back to Seattle. Traci came along next in October of 1958, followed by Kelli in 1960, and Gary in 1965. In 1968 the family moved to California. The family spent happy filled, sunny days at the local tennis club, swimming and playing a lot of tennis.
Darrell and Nancy divorced in 1971 and Nancy went back to work full time. One of Nancy’s favorite things to do was to host Sunday night dinner, where all were welcome. Great conversations and special times around the dinner table brought Nancy the greatest joy. In 1982 Nancy attended her high school reunion and reunited with Les Locke, her high school sweetheart. They were married in 1983 and Nancy moved back to Tacoma. They built a house together in Gig Harbor and that is where Nancy took her last breath.
Nancy loved her 4 kids, and 7 grandkids. She loved to travel to Napa Valley to go wine tasting and enjoy gourmet meals. She was a prolific reader and loved both books and gossip magazines. She volunteered for over a decade at Franke Tobey Jones. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents Florence and Harry Berry, her second husband Les Locke, and sister Carol Milgard. She is survived by her first husband Darrell, her 4 children, and 7 grandchildren: Darren & Traci (Debbi’s kids), Olivia and Sarah (Gary’s kids), and Kyle, Iain, and Abbie (Kelli’s kids) and daughter Traci. A private family memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MultiCare Hospice or Franke Tobey Jones.
