Obituary Myron James "Jim" McNerthney Myron James "Jim" McNerthney, age 85, passed away in Bellingham, WA at his home he shared with his daughter and grandchildren. He was with his family and his new found family of wonderful caregivers. Jim was born in Tacoma, WA on April 15, 1922 and lived there until he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was proud to serve in World War II in the 237th Electrical Engineers Division in New Guinea and the Philippines. After his service, Jim enjoyed life in Sun Valley as a ski instructor. He returned to Tacoma where he met Mary Juliette "Julie" Schwalen, who became his wife of 35 years until death did them part. They had four children Jo Ann, Patrick, Michael, and Daniel. Jim worked in the bowling industry and invested in and maintained real estate rental property. During his golden years he married Margaret "Peggy" Rix. Jim was known to be a gentle, good natured man. He enjoyed being active; he was an avid golfer for most of his life. He enjoyed being in the company of his family and friends. His sisters were very dear to him. He loved Peggy and her family, especially her son, Doug Rix, who was very attentive to Jim. He is survived by his daughter Jo Ann of Bellingham, Washington, son, Patrick and his wife, Sheri, of Makawao, Hawaii and youngest son Daniel of Portland, Oregon; his wife, Peggy of Tacoma; his grandchildren Lucas Michael, Julia Dolores, Juan James, Terra Joy, Madeline Kay, and Nolan James; and his sisters Mary Ester Cordano, and Elizabeth "Bette" Corbet; his step daughter Pam Gotham and her son "Little Lucas"; his step son Doug Rix; thirteen nephews and eight nieces and numerous grand nephews and grand nieces. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael, and his wife, Julie, both of whom who he often remembered with affection. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alpine Safety Awareness Program, 615 12th Street, Bellingham, WA 98225 in memory of Jim's son, Michael. A rosary prayer service will be at Gaffney Funeral Home on Sunday, May 20th, at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be at Saint Patrick's Church in Tacoma on Monday, May 21st, at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow. The burial will be immediately following at Calvary Cemetery.
