Obituary Minnie Elizabeth Miller Minnie Elizabeth Miller passed away peacefully January 21, 2010. Born January 8, 1920 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Minnie was the only child of Anita and Joseph Rosser. However, being an only child did not mean that she was ever alone. Throughout her years on this Earth she made many friends by opening her heart to all she met. It was this compassion for others that led her to become a teacher. Her love for children kept her in that profession for over 40 years as she taught in schools in Tennessee, France and finally in the Clover Park School District from which she retired in 1992. In 1959 she married John N. Miller, a military man. They remained bonded until his passing in 2002. John's career in the Army would take Minnie to Europe. It was there she began her family with the birth of her only child, John N. Miller Jr. In 1964 the Army life brought Minnie to Tacoma. Although "home" would always be Chattanooga, she made her life here. She was extremely active in her church, Allen A.M.E, and numerous clubs and organizations including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Tacoma Chapter of Link, Incorporated. While travel was one of Minnie's passions, her other great love in life was shopping. There was no one who could "Close the stores" like Minnie. But Minnie's true pride and joy were her two grandchildren, John III and Elizabeth, who affectionately called her "Mama Mimi" and whom she showered with attention and love. Minnie was preceded in death by her husband John N. Miller. She is survived by her son John N. Miller Jr, daughter-in-law Carol Miller and her grandchildren John N. Miller III and Elizabeth N. Miller. The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff of The Weatherly Inn and Franciscan Hospice whose compassion and care for "Miss Minnie" was overwhelming. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 29th. at Allen A.M.E. Church. (1223 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.) Viewing from 9 to 11am. Service begins at 11am. Interment, to follow at New Tacoma Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Franscian Hospice or a Charity of your choice. Online condolences may be left at www.GaffneyCares.com
