Obituary Mary Clark Rowland Mary Clark Rowland passed away December 22 at Skyline in Seattle. She was born in Tacoma September 14, 1937, the daughter of Judge DeWitt and Anne Rowland. She graduated from Stadium High School and the University of Washingtonwith a Bachelor's of Science in Foods and Nutrition; she was also a Registered Dietitian; in 2002 after 22 years, Mary retired from the Washington State Dairy Counsel as Executive Director. Mary is survived by her cat Doodle, her sister Anne R. Carew in New Hampshire, niece Anne Goldberg, and nephews Joseph and Richard and their children; cousins Clark and Pam Rowland, Nita Morton and Nita's daughter& son-in-lawVictor &Chari Clark. Mary is also survived by many of her longtime friends that were her family too; Debra French, Linda Mendoza, Perri Bernard, Loria Heerensperger, Mike and Gerry Matteo and so many more. Linda Mendoza, who worked with Mary wrote, in part, the following to inform the Washington State Dairy Council of Mary's passing titled "A Legend" - We received very sad news today that our dear Mary passed away in her sleep last night. She is truly the foundation of what makes the Dairy Council what it is. Her vision, belief in nutrition education, integrity and work ethic shaped not only the organization but all that had the privilege to work under her direction. Her spirit and legacy will live on in our hearts and in the organization. Mary was a fighter and although she battled most of her life with rheumatoid arthritis that did not deter her one bit from loving and enjoying life; she traveled to most of the United States, Africa, Australia, Asia &Europe. She loved to shop and even bargained for an item while on an elephant ride. Her style, grace, humor and words of advice was only matched by her wit and sparkle, these are the memories that will carry forward with those who knew and loved her. A family service will be held at Calvary Cemetery on January 17, 2016 at 11:00am, followed by a celebration at Shenanigans in Tacoma starting at 1:00pm.
