Mary Elizabeth (Duffy) Levitre

Obituary Mary (Duffy) LeVitre Mary Elizabeth (Duffy) LeVitre passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the age of 90. Mary was born on April 30, 1923 to Michael F. and Helen M. (Hoffman) Duffy in Seattle, WA. She grew up in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood, where she attended St. Benedict's Catholic Grade School and Lincoln High School. Mary attended the University of Washington and earned a degree in Home Economics and Education in 1945. After graduating, she taught Home Economics at Port Townsend High School. In 1947, she married René A. LeVitre and the two enjoyed a full life of community, family, golf, and travel over the next 60 years until René's death in 2007. Mary was always at René's side as a partner and supporter during his nearly 40 year career with the Coca-Cola Company. Always "ready to do", Mary actively volunteered for the American Diabetes Association, United Cerebral Palsy, St. Charles Mother's Club, Bellarmine Philomethea Mother's Club, and served as President of the Tacoma Women of Rotary. She and René were long-time members of the Tacoma Golf and Country Club. Mary was a kind, gentle, and caring person who will be greatly missed. Mary is survived by her three children, Rosanne LeVitre (Lars Hanson) of Vienna, VA, Diane Higgins (Leroy) of Newark, CA, and Michael LeVitre (Greg Stevens) of New York, NY; two grandchildren, Robert Higgins (Lindsey) of Houston, TX and Kevin Higgins (Krystal) of Reno, NV; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Yvonne Reed; and an extended family of nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her husband, Renè brother, Lawrence Duffy; and her sister, Katherine (Duffy) Daniel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 9:00am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Tacoma. Interment at Tahoma National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's memory to the American Diabetes Association. Please leave online condolences at www.gaffneycares.com.
