Obituary Long-time Tacoma resident, Marshall D. Turner, passed away Friday, August 5, 2005 at 3:30 p.m. in The Tacoma Lutheran Home. Marshall died as a result of cancer. Born in Tacoma on March 22, 1921 he was the son of David and Edith Turner. He attended Washington Elementary, Allen C. Mason Junior High and graduated in 1939 from Stadium High School. Marshall served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and initially went to sea as a member of the U.S. Merchant Marine. His first trip out to the Southwest Pacific was aboard a Sun Oil Company Tanker. He then volunteered to go on active duty, and subsequently went back to the Pacific as a crew member on a floating dry dock. He spent the remainder of the war at the Advanced Repair Base, Samar Philippine Islands. He left the Navy at the end of WWII. During his later life he worked in partnership with his father in the building trades. Marshall is survived by his siblings, Elizabeth "Betty", David A. and Janet K. Marcan and a number of nieces and nephews of whom he was very fond. He was preceded in death by his father, David, his mother, Edith (Paggeot) Turner and a sister, Norma Jean McDuffee.
