Obituary Marla Joan Hughes, loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, began her new life in heaven on Wednesday, November 1, 2006. She was born in Long Beach, California, on January 25, 1939. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1956. She met her husband W. J. (Bill) Hughes and married him on June 6, 1959. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lucile Green, and her brother, Robert Green. Marla is survived by her husband, Bill; her daughters, Kathleen Hughes-Oliver (Rob), and Teresa Slosar (Paul); her son, Bill Hughes (Pam); five granddaughters and one grandson; and one great grandson. She enjoyed working in the legal field at Pierce County Prosecutors Office, Rush Hannula Harkins, and the Tacoma City Attorney's Office. She volunteered with the deaf school in Reno, Nevada, and enjoyed gardening, quilting, antiquing, and collecting treasures. Marla was a very caring, giving and loving person and leaves behind a large family and many friends that love her and will miss her deeply but she will always be in their hearts. Memorial service will be on November 18, 2006, at 10:00 a.m., at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, in Tacoma. The family suggests memorial donations in her name be made to Franciscan Hospice House of Tacoma, Susan Coleman Breast Cancer Foundation.
