August 23, 1920 — January 21, 2014

Obituary Sister Marietta Wallaert (Sister Agnes Madeline) Sister Marietta spent 75 years of her life as a Franciscan sister. She was a teacher, a principle, a librarian, and a tutor. Her love of learning inspired many students to reach for their full potential. Sister was born in Baker City, Oregon and passed away on January 21, 2014 in Tacoma. She attained a B.A and a M.A in education. From 1971-1974 she was the principal of St. Charles in Tacoma, Washington. Sister was a traveler and enjoyed meeting many people both here in the United States and in Europe. She was particularly interested in Belgium, since her parents had emigrated from there. When she was not able to travel long distances, she frequently traveled by city bus. When leaving the convent in the morning, she would say that she was doing her bus ministry for the day. She truly enjoyed the local people she met. Sister Marietta was well known by the drivers and passengers and often took their worries and cares to prayer. When she retired to St. Ann Convent in Tacoma, she spent her days in prayer and correspondence. She wrote letters daily to relatives and friends, and to those who needed encouragement. Sister Marietta is survived by numerous cousins in Belgium and Oregon and by her Franciscan family All services will be at St. Ann Convent. 6602 S Alaska St, Tacoma. Vigil will be at 6:00pm, January 23, 2014 and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am, January 24, 2014. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. Please leave online condolences at www.gaffneycares.com.
