Lynn Noel Pelegruti

Lynn Noel Pelegruti, affectionately known to generations of Tacoma kindergarten families as “Miss Pelegruti,” passed away at her home on Saturday, August 17th. A lifelong Tacoma resident, Lynn attended Wilson High School and Western Washington University. After college, Lynn embarked on a distinguished43-year kindergarten teaching career with Tacoma Public Schools. She started at Boze Elementary (Fall1973 - Spring 1984) before settling in to her longtime teaching home at Lowell Elementary (Fall 1984 -Spring 2015). Described by a former student’s family as a “Lowell icon and the GOAT of kindergarten teachers,” Lynn made an impact on her students and their families well beyond their kindergarten years. Following retirement, Lynn enjoyed mentoring the next generation of teachers. A former teaching assistant noted that “Lynn’s love for the kids was beyond words. She never forgot any student names and could tell stories from many years past when any former student was mentioned. She touched so many lives.” Beyond her beloved students and colleagues, Lynn enjoyed her family, friends, local sports teams, and animals, becoming a regular donor to the Tacoma Humane Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, Madeline and Peter Pelegruti, and her older sister, Susan Carnes. Lynn is survived, and will be dearly missed, by her sister Gail (Tom) Krilich, her niece Lynne (Marc) Benioff, nephews Mike (Tracy) Krilich, Pete (Kristen) Carnes, Chris (Melissa) Carnes, and multiple “grand” nephews and nieces.
