Obituary Harmon Zeigler Harmon died from a massive heart attack in Tacoma, on 7/31/06. Born in Savannah, Georgia on 3/09/36, he earned his doctorate degree in political science at a remarkably young age, and was proud of his short lived football career for the Georgia Bulldogs. Harmon was always humbled by all of his accomplishments, and never forced his academic credentials on others. He became an accomplished professor and political science text book author of over 30 books. He was an author and a reader. He was often seen sitting in a chair in the living room reading three or four books at one time. He taught at the University of Oregon for 21 years, and then held an endowed chair at University of Puget Sound. During his academic career he and his family traveled to many countries on academic Guggenheims and Fullbrights to research different comparative political systems. Of his leisure travels, he had a special fondness for Paris. His family will always have many fond memories of the opportunities they had throughout hid life to travel, enjoy good food, wine and cultural events. He looked forward to every Wagner Ring Festival attended with his daughter, Amanda. Harmon also had a huge heart for dogs. Once they entered his home, even as a foster dog, they never left. Harmon had many students, colleagues and friends who had immense respect and fond memories of their experience with him. He had a great sense of humor, even at the expense of himself. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pat, son Mike, daughter Amanda (Jim) Garrett and three very special Grandchildren, Ben, Zo? and Ruby. A service will be held Friday, August 4th 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tacoma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pierce County Animal Welfare Society, 8504 Chambers Creek Rd, University Place, WA 98467, or St. Patrick's Catholic Church, in Tacoma.
