Lucy Jean Spatafore

November 8, 1914 — December 29, 2020

Tacoma, Washington

Lucy Jean Spatafore, the oldest resident of Tacoma, dies at 106. She passed away peacefully of natural causes on December 29th. She was a loving and caring sister and aunt, and very devoted to the practice of Catholic religion. She was born of Italian immigrant parents, Annunciata Curcio and Frank Spatafore, and lived with her four siblings in the Hilltop area of Tacoma. She lived through the 1918 pandemic, but lost her father 102 years ago in that crisis. After her father’s death, her family survived by doing odd jobs in the community and in the summertime picked berries in the Puyallup valley. She attended St. Leo’s Catholic grade school and high school through support from St. Rita’s Church. After she graduated, she had a career as a professional secretary. She spent the majority of her career as the executive secretary to the General Manager of Hooker Chemical Company in Tacoma. Lucy’s personal life was spent caring for her mother until her mother’s death in 1972. Lucy retired in 1979 and enjoyed spending time with relatives and friends and practicing her faith in the Catholic Church. She lived her last 10 years comfortably at the Weatherly Inn Retirement Community. She is survived by two nieces (Doreen (Spatafore) Costanti and Nancy (Pentimonti) Starr), two nephews (Gene Pentimonti and Rich Pentimonti), 11 grand nieces and nephews, and 18 great grand nieces and nephews. There will be an Entombment at Calvary Cloisters by Gaffney Funeral Home on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 1pm. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Charles Catholic Church to be scheduled in the summer of 2021.
